Pearland High School Varsity Volleyball Head Coach: John Turner, Graduated from Lamar University - 1985, Head Coach @ Pearland High School since 1993, Assistant Coach @ Alvin HS – 1992-93, Assistant Coach @ Lamar University – 1991-92, Head Coach @ Baytown Lee HS – 1989-91, Head Coach @ Channelview HS – 1986 – 89, Assistant Coach @ Friendswood HS – 1985 – 86, Director – Nation’s largest high school volleyball tournament 98-08, Coached high school and collegiate volleyball for the past 23 years, Coached USAV Junior Olympic Volleyball for 19 years, Named TGCA East All-Star Coach twice in his career – 1989 and 2000, Career Coaching Record: 475 – 208, 5 TGCA East All-Star Players in Career, 7 TGCA All-State Volleyball Players in Career, 38 TGCA All-State Academic Volleyball Players in Career, District Champions – 7 out of his 23 years of coaching, Playoff Teams – 20 out of 23 years of coaching, Coached Channelview HS to the UIL State 4A Championship Finals (2) , Named Lone Star Region Coach of the Year for USAV – 1991, District Coach of the Year – 6 times for 19-4A/22-5A/23-5A

Coach Turner has helped assist close to 150 players in his high school & club coaching career with earning collegiate volleyball scholarships.

Sarah Paulk - Varsity Assistant Coach

Sarah Paulk, formerly Sarah Treadwell, is a graduate of the University of Maryland in 2005 with a degree in Criminal Justice. She was a 4 year letterman in volleyball. At Maryland her team won back to back ACC championships in 2003 and 2004.  In 2003 she was selected to the ACC All tournament team and in 2004 she was selected as the MVP of the ACC tournament.  She still holds the record for kills in the ACC tournament.  During her years at Maryland she was also selected to numerous honor rolls and was named to the Dean’s list in 2004. Prior to her years at Maryland she was a varsity member in volleyball, softball, and basketball at Pearland High School.  She played varsity volleyball for 4 years under Head Coach John Turner and competed for Houston Juniors club team under Mitch Casteel.

Sarah currently teaches World Geography and is in her 3rd year at Pearland High School as the Varsity Volleyball Assistant Coach.

Sarah was married to Ryan Paulk this summer.

Jaclyn Van Tiem – Assistant Coach

Jaclyn Van Tiem graduated summa cum laude from Houston Baptist University (HBU) in 2004 with a degree in Sociology and Psychology.  During her years at HBU, her team finished first in their conference every year and finished the 2002 season as the Runner-Up NAIA National Champions.  That year, Jaclyn was named to the NAIA All Region Team and won her first of two NAIA Academic All American Awards.  She was also honored with one of the Champion of Character Awards at the NAIA National Tournament.  During her college years, she received numerous other athletic and academic honors culminating in her being named as one of the 2003-2004 HBU President’s Award Winners.  Before college, Jaclyn played varsity volleyball at St. Agnes Academy under Head Coach Lynn Kercheval. 

Jaclyn coached club volleyball for 5 years before becoming a high school coach.  She is currently in her 2nd year at Pearland High School as a teacher and JV coach for Volleyball and Basketball.

Sara Arthur - Assistant Coach

Sara Arthur is joining Pearland High School with 16 years of experience in the sport of volleyball. She played competitive club for 7 years, as a setter, under some of the areas top coaches. Her high school career was spent at Deer Park High School, were she played varsity all 4 years. While attending high school, Sara achieved many great accolades during her playing career. She was named to the all district team 3 years in a row; her senior year earning District 23-5A MVP, and she made the all greater Houston team as a senior. Upon graduating, she received a full athletic scholarship to Angelo State University for volleyball.

Today, Sara is still very active in the sport as she continues to play in USAV, coach club, and participate in various leagues with her husband, James Arthur. They both reside in Pearland with their two dogs.
